Optional feature
Pact of the Canvas
Homebrew · EoR · 2024
Your patron grants you the ability to summon the creatures you draw. You can use a canvas or thin air to activate your ability. You must spend at least 1 minute for each CR of the creature and consult the table below for the creatures you can conjure. A conjured creature stays for 10 minutes or until its HP drops to 0. For the duration it is friendly towards you and your companions and acts on its own initiative.
As a bonus action, you can change the creature's type between its original type and construct. While a construct it has these features instead of the corresponding parts in its statblock:
Damage Resistances: slashing and piercing damage
Damage Immunities: psychic, poison, and necrotic
Damage Vulnerabilities: bludgeoning
Condition Immunities: charmed, exhaustion, frightened, petrified, poisoned
| Warlock Level | Creatures Can Be Summoned |
|---|---|
| 3 | Any beast, celestial, fey or fiend with a maximum CR of 1/2, Ink-heart Spirit |
| 5 | Ink-heart Hellspawn, Ink-heart Angel, Ink-heart Fairy, Ink-heart Animal |
| 7 | Ink-heart Guardian, Ink-heart Lancer, Ink-heart Mystic |
| 9 | Ink-heart Bulwark, Ink-heart Warrior |
| 11 | Ink-heart Knight |
| 13 | Ink-heart Magus |
The GM may add creatures to the table for a Pact of the Canvas, such as a bearded devil, pegasus, or polar bear.
You need a special ink made of magical liquids that costs 25 gp per CR and a body-part or essence of the creature. If the creature is an Ink-heart, you do not need a body part. You can summon a creature a number of times equal to your proficiency bonus and regain expended uses when you finish a long rest.
Magical Effects
Choosing the pact of the canvas allows a subtle bit of magic around you to appear. Consult the table below or come up with your own with the discretion of the GM.
| d6 | Effect |
|---|---|
| 1 | You can turn water into a colorful paint when you touch it. Sometimes this happens by accident. |
| 2 | You usually smell as if bathed in paint instead of water. |
| 3 | You sometimes find random drawings in your pockets that you are sure you didn't draw but look like you did. |
| 4 | Sometimes the pictures or reflections around you move or act weirdly but for very briefly and for one person. |
| 5 | You hear whispers from the canvases of other painters, as if rivals and masters were sharing their wisdom and desires. |
| 6 | You can perceive colors as having distinct sensory qualities besides their hue: emotional, auditory, olfactory, and so forth. These can shift from day to day, might seem random to you, and may not match cultural biases: for instance, one day a particular shade of yellow might smell like flowers and exude happiness, while another day it might bring to one's nostrils the putrescence of plague. Also, purple is often denoted to mean royalty, but for you it might sound like a wailing sea creature. |
